Resource Summary

The findings of this research make clear that both the law itself and the way in which it is applied in England and Wales create barriers to achieving a just outcome in criminal proceedings against women who have killed their abusers.

The recommendations in the final section of this report reflect this, calling for law reform and changes to practice at every stage of the criminal justice process, in order to overcome the many
barriers that impede women getting justice in these cases.
