Lived Experience Research Toolkit

This toolkit, co‑created by academic researchers and women with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System, provides practical guidance for ethical, meaningful and trauma‑informed co‑production in research. It outlines principles for avoiding tokenism, sharing power, building trust, embedding feminist ethics of care, and recognising lived experience as expertise. The handbook supports both researchers and co‑researchers through clear rights, practical support, reflective tools and resources to ensure safe, inclusive and impactful collaboration. As one contributor notes, “being part of this group has made me feel seen, valued and appreciated.” The toolkit aims to strengthen justice‑focused, participatory research.
