Collaboration across the women's sector has never been more important
The National Women’s Justice Coalition is proud to welcome Women in Prison (WIP) as a Partner, strengthening our collective work to transform the justice system for women and girls.
As a founding member of the coalition in 2021, WIP has long been a leading force in advocating for a justice system that recognises and responds to the realities of women’s lives. Their partnership comes at a critical time, as women’s organisations collectively respond to the Women’s Justice Board recommendations, the implementation of the Sentencing Act and the governments promised £32m investment in women’s services.
WIP’s expertise, values and long-standing commitment to supporting women affected by the criminal justice system and to campaigning to end the harm it causes align closely with NWJCs mission to drive systemic change, reduce the stigmatisation and criminalisation of women and girls and improve outcomes for them.
Sonya Ruparel, CEO of Women in Prison, said:
“Collaboration across the women’s sector has never been more important. By working together through the Coalition, we can amplify women’s voices, strengthen the evidence for change and push for a justice system that genuinely supports women rather than punishing them for the trauma and inequality they have faced.”
Abbi Ayers, Director of Strategic Development for NWJC, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Women in Prison into the coalition. As a founding member, their leadership and deep expertise have always been integral to this movement. At a time when meaningful change is urgently needed, WIPs partnership strengthens our collective voice and sharpens our ability to drive forward the systemic reforms women deserve.”
